Water Tariffs to Be Reduced by End of This Month, Minister Announces

The Ministry of Urban Development, Construction and Housing has announced that water tariffs will be reduced before the end of this month.

Minister Anura Karunathilaka says that the reduction in water tariffs is intended to provide more benefits to those who consume water in smaller quantities.

He adds that several proposals for reducing water tariffs, along with a 20% reduction in electricity bills, have been put forward.

He has instructed a committee from the National Water Supply and Drainage Board to review all these proposals and provide a report.

The Minister says that when determining the water tariffs, electricity bills contribute only about 40%.

He adds that therefore, based on this consideration, new pricing will be announced.
