COLOMBO (News 1st); Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, Minister of Health and Media, has voiced his concerns regarding the use of public funds to provide privileges to ministers and former presidents.

In a recent statement to the media, Dr. Jayatissa emphasized the need for a thorough investigation into the benefits granted to political figures.

Dr. Jayatissa highlighted that the government is currently reviewing a committee report and considering feasible actions.

He stressed the importance of changing the political culture, as promised to the public during past presidential and general elections.

The minister assured that decisions would be made in alignment with the mandate given by the people, ensuring that public tax money is not used to maintain politicians indefinitely.

He criticized the practice of using public funds for personal benefits, such as vehicles and housing, for political figures.

Dr. Jayatissa pointed out that the constitution does not mandate the maintenance of former presidents or the provision of housing at the state's expense. He referenced the 1986 Presidential Entitlements Act, which clearly outlines the provision of suitable housing or a portion of the pension for former presidents.
