COLOMBO (News 1st); Colombo High Court Judge Manjula Thilakaratne has ordered the remand of an anaesthesiologist until February 13 for submitting a falsified medical report to the court.
The doctor had claimed to be unwell and unable to attend court proceedings, but a five-member medical board led by the Chief Judicial Medical Officer of Colombo found no evidence of such illness.
The court determined that the doctor had attempted to mislead the court by presenting false information.
The case against the anaesthesiologist involves allegations of misappropriating funds from other doctors by promising to import vehicles using duty-free permits.
During a previous hearing in November, the doctor failed to appear in court, submitting a medical report claiming illness.
Following a court order, the doctor appeared on January 20, and the court directed an immediate medical examination.
The findings of the medical board revealed that the doctor was not suffering from any condition that would prevent court attendance.
