CAA Raids Shops in Matara District Over Hidden and Overpriced Rice

COLOMBO (News 1st): Officials from the Consumer Affairs Authority conducted raids yesterday in several areas of the Matara district in search of hidden rice stocks and rice stocks being sold at higher prices.

A number of major businesses in Akuressa inspected yesterday.

Legal action was initiated against a leading business in the town for selling rice at a higher price.

Meanwhile, shops around Hakmana and Kirinda were also raided.

Officials from the Consumer Affairs Authority also inspected business establishments in Weligama to check if rice stocks were being sold at higher prices.

Legal action was taken against several such businesses yesterday.
