Cricket Transformation Accelerates With New Governance

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Sri Lanka Cricket Transformation Committee says its primary responsibilities are to ensure good governance, enhance excellence on the field of play, and efficiently manage the day-to-day operations of Sri Lanka Cricket until an elected administration is established.

The committee emphasized these priorities in a special statement issued outlining the progress achieved since its appointment.

The statement notes that within a relatively short period of just two months, the Transformation Committee has drafted a new constitution and submitted it to the Government.

The committee also stated that steps have been taken to strengthen the domestic cricket structure with the aim of improving playing standards through a more competitive tournament system and further strengthening pathways that identify and develop talent for the national team.

The statement further revealed that Andy Atkinson, the former independent pitch consultant and chief pitch advisor for the International Cricket Council (ICC), has been appointed as Sri Lanka's National Curator with the objective of improving the standard of cricket pitches across the country.

The Transition Committee also said that a new district and provincial coaching structure has been established following a formal interview and selection process.

According to the statement, several initiatives have also been implemented to improve the standards of umpiring and match officiating, enhance sports medicine and player welfare programmes, and elevate the profile and development of women's cricket in Sri Lanka.
