Sri Lanka, Saudi Arabia Ink 2025 Hajj Agreement

COLOMBO (News 1st); In a move to enhance the Hajj pilgrimage experience for Sri Lankan Muslims, Sri Lanka has signed an agreement with Saudi Arabia. 

The formal agreement took place on January 11, 2025, in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, marking a milestone in the cooperation between the two nations.

The Sri Lankan delegation, led by Dr. Sunil Senevi, the Minister of Buddhasasana, Religious, and Cultural Affairs, joined forces with Dr. Abdulfattah Bin Sulaiman Mashat, the Deputy Minister of Hajj and Umrah of Saudi Arabia, to solidify the commitment. 

Minister Senevi visited Saudi Arabia at the invitation of the Saudi Minister of Hajj and Umrah.

Focus on Pilgrims' Experience:

During the bilateral meeting preceding the agreement, Minister Senevi highlighted Sri Lanka's dedication to enhancing the Hajj experience for its citizens. 

He shared comprehensive plans to streamline Hajj operations, aiming for a smoother and more efficient pilgrimage process in the future.

High-Level Engagement and Cultural Visits:

Minister Senevi's visit includes a series of high-level engagements, including a scheduled meeting with Dr. Tawfiq Fawzan Alrabiah, the Saudi Minister of Hajj and Umrah.

Additionally, the Sri Lankan delegation will visit Madinah, the holy city of the Prophet, and explore significant cultural sites in Jeddah and Madinah. The Minister also plans to engage with the Sri Lankan community residing in Jeddah.
