2,500 Passports To Be Issued Per Day; Special Channel for Urgent Cases

COLOMBO (News 1st): The Ministry of Public Security says that steps have been taken to issue 2,500 passports per day.

Minister Ananda Wijepala says that, previously, 1,100 passports were issued per day.

When inquired by News First whether people have to wait for about three months to obtain their passports, the minister responded that if someone urgently needs to travel abroad, a separate channel has been opened for issuing passports for such cases.

The Minister adds that applications submitted through this channel will be reviewed by a committee, and steps will be taken to issue the passports as quickly as possible.
