COLOMBO (News 1st) - The government of Israel has decided to deport 17 Sri Lankans who entered the country on agricultural visas but ran away from their designated workplaces and worked in bakeries.
Sri Lankan Ambassador to Israel Nimal Bandara confirmed that these individuals were arrested and are currently in the custody of Israel authorities.
Israel closely monitors the activities of foreign workers.
A Sri Lankan nurse and another individual who violated the conditions of their work visas were recently blacklisted and sent back to Sri Lanka.
