Flood Risk Warning Issued for 12 River Basins in Sri Lanka

COLOMBO (News 1st): The Department of Irrigation has issued a warning for flood situations in some of the low line flood-prone areas across the Island, from November 25 - 28.

The warning has been issued considering the current low-pressure situation in the Bay of Bengal and the possible further developments within the next few days.

According to the Irrigation Department, the flood-prone river basins are Malwathu Basin, Kala Oya Basin, Kanagarayanaru Basin, Parangi Aru Basin, Maa Oya Basin, Yan Oya Basin, Mahaweli Ganga Basin, Maduru Oya Basin, Mundeniaru Basin, Gal Oya Basin , Heda Oya Basin and Vila Oya.

Therefore, the Department of Irrigation urges residents and travelers in those areas to be vigilant from 25th November 2024 onwards. 

The department further requests the Disaster Management Authorities to take adequate precautions in this regard, as well.
