COLOMBO (News 1st) - The satyagraha launched by the E-8 Visa Union in front of the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment marks its second day today.
Protesters are demanding solutions after being unable to travel to South Korea despite holding E-8 visa.
The E-8 visa allows individuals to travel to South Korea for short-term employment, typically for six months, with opportunities to work in the agriculture and fisheries sectors for up to eight months.
A total of 107 Sri Lankans, who have secured employment contracts in Wando, South Korea, remain stranded due to a failure in registration at the Bureau of Foreign Employment.
The Bureau cited a technical error during visa approval as the reason for not granting approval.
Meanwhile, Additional General Manager of the Bureau of Foreign Employment, Gamini Senarath Yapa said that the matter has been reported to the Criminal Investigation Department for investigation and facts regarding the matter will be forwarded to the Attorney General's Department tomorrow.
