Father Killed While Trying to Prevent Son's Abduction

COLOMBO (News 1st); A 65-year-old father of the Parakaduwa area of Eheliyagoda was killed while attempting to prevent the abduction of his 23-year-old son. 

According to Deputy Inspector General of Police and Police Media Spokesman, Attorney-at-Law Nihal Thalduwa, a group of individuals arrived in a jeep on the 19th and forcibly abducted the young man from his home.

In an effort to stop the abduction, the father clung to the jeep, but was subsequently run over.

The police spokesman stated that the abductors had thrown acid on the young man. 

The father, who was receiving treatment at the Ratnapura Teaching Hospital, succumbed to his injuries yesterday.

The police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
