COLOMBO (News 1st): The Department of Irrigation has issued a flood warning for the Attanagalu Oya area and its surrounding areas for the next 48 hours due to ongoing heavy rainfall in the river basin.

Residents of several divisional secretariats, including Diwulapitiya, Meerigama, Attanagalla, Mahara, Gampaha, Minuwangoda, Ja-Ela, Katana, and Wattala, as well as those living in low-lying areas near the Attanagalu Oya and Uruwal Oya, are urged to remain vigilant and heed the warnings from the Department of Irrigation.

Meanwhile, a person has been reported missing in Walihinda, Kaduwela, as a result of flash floods. Search operations for the individual are currently underway.

Meteorological forecasts predict heavy showers exceeding 150mm in certain areas of the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, along with Galle and Matara districts.

The Met Department attributes this severe weather pattern to an atmospheric disturbance affecting the vicinity of Sri Lanka.
