PAFFREL Calls for Peaceful Conduct in Upcoming Elections

COLOMBO (News 1st); Rohana Hettiarachchi, Executive Director of the People's Action for Free and Fair Elections (PAFFREL), has urged political parties to ensure a peaceful conduct during the upcoming parliamentary elections.

"Nomination processes for the parliamentary elections are currently underway and are expected to conclude by the end of this week. We believe that it is possible to conduct this election peacefully," he said.

The recent presidential election was one of the most peaceful in Sri Lanka's history. 

"Therefore, we call on all political parties and independent groups contesting in this parliamentary election to ensure the same level of peace and responsibility as demonstrated during the presidential election," he added.

Hettiarachchi emphasized the importance of all candidates and political parties acting responsibly to maintain the peaceful atmosphere experienced during the recent presidential election.
