Landslide Warnings Issued for Galle and Kalutara

COLOMBO (News 1st); The National Building Research Organization (NBRO) has announced that landslide warnings were issued for several Divisional Secretariats in the Galle and Kalutara districts.

The NBRO stated that these warnings are based on the current rainfall conditions and future rainfall forecasts.

The organization also urged the public to remain vigilant regarding potential landslides.

Meanwhile, the highest rainfall recorded this morning was in Colombo, measuring 162 mm, according to the Department of Meteorology.

Rainfall measurements from other areas include 112 mm in Matugama and Walallawita, and 111 mm in Horana and Kalutara.

The Department of Meteorology has indicated that due to the influence of the Intertropical Convergence Zone, an increase in rainfall is expected from today.

Heavy rainfall exceeding 100 mm is anticipated in the Western, North-western, and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as in the Galle and Matara districts.

The Department also noted that heavy showers could occur in other parts of the island during the evening or night.
