COLOMBO (News 1st); The Ministry of Public Security is poised to make a critical decision today regarding the issuance of visas to tourists arriving in Sri Lanka.
The move comes after the Supreme Court recently issued an interim order halting the implementation of a Cabinet decision that granted e-Visa services to two foreign companies.
Ministry Secretary Viyani Gunathilaka confirmed that discussions are underway with officials from the Immigration & Emigration Department.
The e-Visa system faced scrutiny due to allegations of procedural violations and misuse of public trust during the procurement process.
The Supreme Court's suspension of the Cabinet decision aims to address these concerns and restore transparency.
As a result of the court order, the online visa issuance system has been temporarily suspended, effective from the night of the 2nd of August.
Tourists arriving in Sri Lanka will now receive ON ARRIVAL visas at the airport until further notice.
