COLOMBO (News 1st) - The United Kingdom will maintain its designation of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) as a terrorist organization, following a ruling by the UK Proscribed Organisation Appeals Commission (POAC).

Posting on X, Sri Lanka's Minister of Foreign Affairs said: The POAC, an independent court established by the UK Parliament, rejected an application submitted by the Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam (TGTE) to remove the LTTE from the UK's proscribed list.

The TGTE, which advocates for an independent Tamil state in northern Sri Lanka, is not banned in the UK as it pursues its goals through non-violent means.

The post added: "The LTTE international network’s approach and strategy is to get foreign governments to deproscribe the LTTE so that they could revive the LTTE."
