Sri Lankan Hostages in Myanmar Cyber Camps May Be Freed Soon, Says State Minister

COLOMBO (News 1st); State Minister of Foreign Affairs Tharaka Balasuriya has expressed optimism that a number of Sri Lankans currently being forcibly held in cyber crime camps in Myanmar could be released soon.

The Minister made this statement upon his return to the country at the Katunayake International Airport, following discussions in Myanmar regarding this critical issue.

There are currently 49 Sri Lankans being held in these cyber camps. Additionally, the Minister highlighted that over 100,000 young people from various countries are being forcibly detained in similar conditions, including approximately 53,000 Chinese nationals.
