COLOMBO (News 1st); The strike launched by university non-academic employees across the nation marked day 40 on Tuesday (11), and protesting against a 15 percent salary reduction and the failure to increase their pending allowances.
The strike has significantly disrupted the operations of all universities and 17 higher education institutions.
The Joint Committee of University Trade Unions has reported that due to the strike, academic activities, weekend courses, and examinations at these institutions have come to a complete halt.
Dhammika S. Priyantha, Co-Chairman of the University Trade Union Joint Committee, emphasized that the strike will persist until their grievances are adequately addressed.
The striking non-academic staff are resolute in their demand for the reversal of the salary cut and an increase in their monthly allowances.
