University non-academic staff strike continues

COLOMBO (News1st); The Cabinet sub-committee appointed to provide solutions to the demands of university non-academic staff is due to convene on Wednesday (08).

The University Grants Commission announced that the recommendations made during the meeting will be presented to the Cabinet on the 13th of May.

The indefinite strike launched by university non-academic staff based on several demands including salary cuts is ongoing for the seventh day on Wednesday (08).

Activities of all universities and 17 higher education institutions have been disrupted due to the strike action.

Co-Chairman of the University Trade Union Joint Committee Dhammika S. Priyantha said the strike action will be further intensified if a favourable solution is not provided to their demands today.
