AKD, Tô Lâm Discuss Expanding Cooperation in Energy, Technology, Security and Trade

COLOMBO (News 1st); President Anura Kumara Dissanayake held bilateral discussions this morning (08) at the President’s Office with President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Tô Lâm.

During the meeting, President Dissanayake expressed his pleasure that Sri Lanka was chosen as the first South Asian destination for President Tô Lâm’s State visit following his assumption of office. He described the visit as an important and symbolic occasion that reflects the deep friendship and long-standing relations between the two countries.

President Dissanayake also extended warm congratulations to President Tô Lâm on his reappointment both as President of Vietnam and as General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam. He expressed confidence that under President Tô Lâm’s continued leadership, Vietnam, which is already progressing as a prosperous nation, will reach even greater heights in the future.

Congratulating Vietnam on its transformation from a Southeast Asian nation that overcame significant challenges into a major manufacturing hub, President Dissanayake highlighted Vietnam as a living example of resilience and development.

The discussions focused on further strengthening bilateral cooperation across a wide range of sectors.

These included cooperation in solar and wind energy, information technology, artificial intelligence, and digital public infrastructure, as well as security cooperation. The leaders also discussed enhancing agricultural productivity and sustainability through technology transfer, capacity development, and post-harvest management, alongside broader avenues of mutual cooperation.

President Dissanayake further invited Vietnamese entrepreneurs to explore investment and business opportunities in Sri Lanka’s priority sectors, including renewable energy, logistics, infrastructure development, tourism, and manufacturing, underscoring Sri Lanka’s openness to deepening economic engagement with Vietnam.
