Special PCoI On Coal Probe Set Up At Adhikarana Piyasa

COLOMBO (News 1st); A Special Presidential Commission of Inquiry appointed to investigate alleged irregularities and unlawful acts related to the importation of coal and the generation of electricity using such coal has now been formally established.

According to an official press release, the Commission will examine activities connected to coal imports, electricity generation using coal, and all other related operations covering the period from 2009 to April 16, 2026.

The Commission has been set up at the 5th Floor of the Magistrate’s Court Complex, Adhikarana Piyasa, Sanchi Arachchi Watta, Adhikarana Mawatha, Colombo 12.

Newspaper advertisements were published on April 30, 2026, calling on the public to submit any information held by individuals or institutions relevant to the matters under investigation. 

The deadline for submitting such information has been set for May 22, 2026.

The press release further states that preliminary investigations by police officers attached to the Commission have already commenced.
