COLOMBO (News 1st) - The International Monetary Fund's First Deputy Managing Director Gita Gopinath has emphasised the need for Sri Lanka to ensure the reform momentum is maintained.
During talks with State Minister of Finance Shehan Semasinghe, Gopinath congratulated the Sri Lankan authorities on the steady progress made on several fronts, including inflation reduction, revenue enhancement and governance reforms.
State Minister Semasinghe posted on X: "The close collaboration between Sri Lanka and the IMF was key in transforming the economy, and the country is now reaping results from the well-crafted policies and reforms implemented".
He added: "Appreciated the IMF's efforts to assist countries in debt distress, particularly leadership extended to the Global Sovereign Debt Roundtable".
