COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka's Inspector General of Police, Deshbandu Tennakoon, shedding light on challenges faced in arresting powerful drug traffickers, emphasized the need for thorough investigations into individuals involved in drug trafficking to bring these criminals to justice.
In the past 24 hours, 653 suspects have been apprehended as part of Operation "Yukthiya."
Among the arrested individuals, 586 suspects are directly linked to drug-related crimes.
The police have seized a significant quantity of illicit substances, including heroin, ice, cannabis, and Mawa pills.
The Ministry of Public Security confirmed that 67 suspects from the criminal division watchlist have also been taken into custody.
Starting today, Operation "Yukthiya" will benefit from the involvement of the military assistance.
