Hospital activities severely disrupted due to strike action

COLOMBO (News 1st); There have been serious disruptions to hospital activities on Friday (02) as well, due to the strike launched by 72 health trade unions.

News 1st correspondent said issuing medicines, conducting tests and conducting radiological tests in many hospitals was hampered.

The members of 72 health trade unions launched the strike at 6.30am on Thursday (01) demanding that the Rs.35,000 allowance granted to doctors be given to them as well.

The Health Trade Union Alliance said health authorities did not provide a response to their demands on Thursday (01).

Co-Convener of the Health Trade Union Alliance Ravi Kumudesh said the strike action was a success.

He said the trade union leaders will convene on Friday (02) afternoon to discuss the future measures.

Army Spokesperson Major General Rasika Kumara said 1,000 Army personnel were deployed to restore the hospital services disrupted by the strike.
