COLOMBO (News 1st); The daily power demand has increased to 50 gigawatt hours, due to the prevailing warm weather conditions.

The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) requested the public to use electricity sparingly.

The CEB said alternative energy methods are being adopted to provide a continuous supply of electricity.

The CEB also announced that it would take around eight days to restore the second generator of the Lak Vijaya Coal Power Plant in Norochcholai, which broke down.

The breakdown resulted in the loss of an electricity capacity of 270 gigawatt-hours to the national grid.

Two generators at the Norochcholai Power Plant are shut down at present.

The CEB however confirmed that there is no issue with regard to the continuous supply of electricity.
