Heavy Rain Expected; Met Department Issues Warnings

COLOMBO (News1st): The Met Department issued an advisory to naval and fishing communities requesting not to venture into the sea areas until further notice due to strong winds accompanied with heavy rainfalls, over the sea areas around the South-eastern Arabian Sea areas and southwestern sea of Bay of Bengal.

Naval and fishing communities are requested to be attentive to future forecasts issued by the Department of Meteorology in this regard.

The Met Department, issuing an advisory, also expects heavy rainfalls of more than 150 mm, this afternoon in the Western and North-Western provinces.

This is due to the pre-monsoon weather prevailing in the sea areas around.

Heavy showers exceeding 100 mm are also expected in the Sabaragamu Province, Galle, Matara, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, and Mannar districts.

Meanwhile, the landslide warning issued to Badulla, Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara, Kandy, Kegalle and Ratnapura is still in effect.

The Department of Irrigation said that sluice gates of four main reservoirs have been opened.

The Director of the Hydrology Unit of the Department of Irrigation S.P.C. Sugeeshwara said that sluice gates of Udawalawa, Angamuwa, Rajanganaya and Polgolla reservoirs have been opened due to the prevailing weather condition.
