Agriculture Minister announces 75% subsidy for Paddy Cultivation

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Agriculture Minister Mahinda Amaraweera has revealed that a 75 percent subsidy will be provided to farmers practicing paddy cultivation using the parachute method.

The minister announced that this subsidy will be implemented starting next month, aiming to support and encourage farmers in their cultivation efforts.

Minister Amaraweera further highlighted the government's efforts to reduce fertilizer prices, stating that the cost of a fertilizer bundle has significantly decreased from Rs. 40,000 to just Rs. 9,000. Additionally, Mud fertilizer is now provided free of charge, and the price of Bundi Fertilizer has been reduced to Rs. 14,000.

The minister emphasized that the government is committed to maintaining affordable prices for farmers and ensuring that there will be no price hikes in the future, emphasizing the focus on reducing costs for agricultural practices.
