Temporary withdrawal of antibiotics due to allergic reactions

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Ministry of Health has announced the temporary withdrawal of three batches of antibiotics from use following reports of allergies associated with the administration of these medications. 

A senior official from the Ministry of Health stated that the specific batches of Anesthetics linked to a woman's death at the Peradeniya Hospital and the occurrence of allergies in two patients at the Kandy National Hospital have been discontinued.

The official further said that the patients who experienced allergies after taking antibiotics at Kandy National Hospital are not in critical condition. It was reported that Chamodi Sandeepani, who was undergoing treatment at Peradeniya Hospital, passed away due to a severe allergic reaction after being administered the antibiotic.

In addition, Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said that on the same day, the antibiotic was administered to the young woman who passed away, it was also given to 12 other patients. Since January, a total of 2,715 patients have been administered the same batch of antibiotics at the Peradeniya Hospital, according to the Minister's statement.
