COLOMBO (News 1st) - Minister of Health Keheliya Rambukwella has taken swift action to combat the alarming spread of the dengue virus in several parts of the island. With 31,098 reported cases this year alone, the situation is critical, and urgent measures need to be taken.

To address this issue, the Minister has instructed the Secretary of the Ministry to provide an expert report outlining immediate steps to be taken. In addition, a committee of experts, including the National Dengue Control Unit, has been appointed to combat the virus.

Furthermore, a presidential task force has been established to coordinate efforts and contain the spread of the dengue virus. The task force will work with health authorities to implement necessary measures to prevent further outbreaks.

The Gampaha district has reported the highest number of cases, with 6,953 patients, followed by the Colombo district with 6,500 patients.

The Minister has urged the public to take all necessary precautions to prevent the spread of dengue, including eliminating mosquito breeding sites, wearing protective clothing, and using mosquito repellents.
