COLOMBO (News 1st) - President Ranil Wickremesinghe has highlighted that Budget 2024 focussed mainly on Cricket.

"This year's budget debate was mainly on Cricket, not on the budget, which means the opposition had nothing to criticize the government and the budget about," he said.

President Ranil Wickremesinghe also declared his commitment to depoliticizing and revolutionizing Cricket in Sri Lanka by 2030.

The President outlined a comprehensive plan, emphasizing the need for an independent trust to oversee the financial administration and development of school cricket, backed by a substantial budget allocation.

President Wickremesinghe expressed his vision for the future of Sri Lankan Cricket, asserting that the game should thrive beyond political influences.

"I have a vision for Cricket 2030. That is why in this budget, we have voted Rs. 1.5 billion for the development of Cricket," he said, "This is not for one year. We will keep voting for this money. And if there are results, it can even go to Rs. 2 billion a year."
