Wilpattu Leopard Encounter: Dog Identified as Stray from Nearby Chena

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Department of Wildlife Conservation has revealed that the dog involved in the recent encounter with a leopard at Wilpattu National Park was a stray from a nearby chena cultivation area.

This discovery was made during an investigation into the incident.

Further investigations confirmed that the dog was not leashed and was free to roam. The Department of Wildlife Conservation stated that the dog, which sustained minor injuries, was observed staying within the chena area.

Security camera footage from the park's entrance showed no evidence of any vehicle bringing a dog or other animals into the park.

The department emphasized that no vehicles were found to have transported the dog into the park.
