COLOMBO (News 1st); The National Dengue Control Unit said there has been a sharp increase in the number of dengue cases reported in Badulla.

Director of the Unit Dr. Nalin Ariyaratne said mosquito breeding grounds should be destroyed and the environment should be kept clean, in order to reduce the spread of dengue.

He said the reason for the sharp rise in dengue cases in the Badulla city limits was identified as water collected in concrete slabs.

Dr. Ariyaratne said health units and the Badulla Municipal Council is carrying out a special program in this regard.

He said special attention should be directed towards the matter, as it may turn in to an epidemic.

The number of dengue cases reported across Sri Lanka has increased to 75,000.

The highest number of dengue cases are reported in the Western, Southern, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces.
