7,000 election monitors for the Local Government Election

Colombo (News 1st) - Election monitoring organizations say that 7,000 independent observers will be deployed to monitor the Local Government Election.

Executive director of election monitoring body People's Action for Free & Fair Elections (PAFFREL) Rohana Hettiarachchi said steps will be taken to increase the number of election observers deployed at district level, from next week.

He said a majority of the observers will be deployed on election day.

Hettiarachchi added however the observers will also cover the period leading up to the election and the post election period.
