National Election Commission is NOT divided - NEC Chairman

Colombo (News 1st) - Chairman of the National Election Commission Attorney Nimal Punchihewa stated that there are no divisions amongst the commission members. 

"In any institution, be it a commission, agency, or even the Supreme Court, various opinions are put forth when a decision is being made - that is the order of things" he stated. "That has happened within this commission as well. Various ideas have been expressed. However, at the end of the day such decisions are announced with the agreement of everyone" he added.

The Chairman of the National Elections Commission assured that the gazette notification calling for nominations was issued with "everyone's consent and the signature of all commission members". 

He was speaking at a special media briefing held on Wednesday evening, responding to numerous reports swirling over the Local Government elections.
