COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lankan authorities have confirmed the arrest of Prabath Madhusankha, infamously known as ‘Midigama Chooti’, in the Sultanate of Oman.

The arrest was carried out as part of a coordinated international operation, according to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

Police sources revealed that the suspect, a key figure in Sri Lanka’s underworld, was apprehended while residing abroad using a forged foreign passport. His capture follows the issuance of a Red Notice through Interpol, signaling global law enforcement agencies to locate and detain him.

Investigations have uncovered that Midigama Chooti was allegedly operating a major drug trafficking network in collaboration with another notorious figure known as ‘Harak Kata’.

Midigama Chooti is believed to have orchestrated several high-profile narcotics deals and violent crimes across the Southern Province.

The CID stated that while the arrest has been confirmed, official verification procedures are underway before initiating extradition proceedings to bring the suspect back to Sri Lanka.

Authorities also linked Midigama Chooti to a series of violent crimes reported in Weligama, Matara, and surrounding areas, further solidifying his status as a high-priority target in the country’s crackdown on organized crime.
