JICA & UNDP to deliver maize seeds

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Ministry of Agriculture said that 144 MT of maize seeds will be handed over to the Agriculture Ministry by JICA and United Nations Development Programme.

The Director General of Agriculture Jayantha Ilangakoon says it will be given support to increase maize cultivation in the maha season.

The relevant maize stocks will be handed over in the presence of Agriculture Minister Mahinda Amaraweera, N Resident Coordinator in Srilanka Hanaa Singer and the Thai Ambassador to Sri Lanka.

The Director General said that the maize seeds will be delivered to 2,900 farmers selected in Monaragala, Ampara and Mahaweli areas.
