Man arrested for spitting on PHI during visit to inspect status of COVID patient

COLOMBO (News 1st); A 48-year-old man from Giriulla was arrested for physically assaulting a Public Health Inspector attached to the Narammala MOH office and for spitting on hin.

Police Spokesperson Senior DIG Ajith Rohana speaking to News 1st said the PHI had visited the residence of a COVID positive patient in Giriulla on Tuesday (03) and at that moment he was assaulted.

The attacker was identified as the father of the COVID positive patient, he said adding the suspect was arrested and will be produced in the court.

A similar incident took place on the 02nd of December 2020 in Atalugama when a person spat on the Public Health Inspector.

That suspect was sentenced to 06 years in prison by the court after charges were filed against him.
