COLOMBO (News 1st) – Statistics from the National water resources and drainage board have shown that consumption of water during this period has increased by up to as much as 20%.
Deepthi Sumanasekera, the general manager at the national water resources and drainage board says, the dry weather conditions in several parts of the island is the possible reason for the increased usage of water.
He further states it is likely that Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, and Uva will continue to face a shortage of rainfall and as a result, it will create greater stress on the limited water resources available.
He requests the public to use water resource with care considering the prevailing dry weather conditions.
