COLOMBO (News 1st); The driver of the car involved in the fatal road accident that claimed three lives in Mattakkuliya has been remanded until September 30.
The order was issued after the suspect was produced today before the Aluthkade Magistrate’s Court No. 07.
Police also confirmed that the driver had been under the influence of cannabis at the time of the accident.
According to police, the finding was established through a medical examination conducted following the collision.
The accident occurred at around 9.15 p.m. yesterday (16) in the Ferguson Junction area of Mattakkuliya, Colombo.
Three people lost their lives in the crash. The victims have been identified as residents of Grandpass, Colombo 15 and Mattakkuliya, aged 64 and 44, while investigations are continuing into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Police said seven people who sustained serious injuries in the collision are currently receiving treatment at the National Hospital of Sri Lanka.
Investigations have revealed that the accident occurred when a car travelling at high speed from the Wattala direction went out of the driver's control and collided with two three-wheelers and two motorcycles.
