Thai Duo Nabbed At BIA With Rs. 51 Mn Drug Haul

COLOMBO (News 1st); Two Thai nationals have been arrested at Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake while attempting to smuggle a stock of Kush and Hashish narcotics into the country.

The suspects were taken into custody by officers attached to the Customs Narcotics Control Unit after arriving in Sri Lanka from Bangkok, Thailand, during the early hours on Tuesday (8)

Authorities said the two suspects were intercepted while attempting to clear the narcotics consignment through the airport's Green Channel.

The suspects are aged 23 and 39.

A search of two suitcases carried by the suspects led to the discovery of 4 kilograms and 496 grams of Kush and 641 grams of Hashish, which had been concealed inside the luggage.

Customs officials estimated the street value of the seized narcotics at approximately Rs. 51.37 million.

The two suspects and the narcotics haul have been handed over to officers of the Police Narcotics Bureau at Bandaranaike International Airport for further investigations.
