COLOMBO (News 1st) - Following the long weekend, the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) has launched a special transport service today to facilitate the return of passengers traveling from their hometowns to Colombo.

SLTB Chairman Sajeewa Kanakaratne said special buses are being deployed from several areas, including Matara, Galle, and Kandy, to accommodate the increased demand.

He added that all regional offices of the Transport Board have been informed of the special operating arrangements.

Meanwhile, the Chairman said strict legal action will be taken against bus drivers who operate vehicles under the influence of drugs.

The decision follows the identification of a significant number of bus drivers who had allegedly used drugs at the beginning of the long weekend.

Meanwhile, Railway Media Spokesperson Asanka Samarasinghe said that the Railway Department has also added a special train service from Anuradhapura to Matara today.
