Bogambara Prison To Admit Inmates Within Two Weeks

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Department of Prisons says arrangements are underway to admit inmates to the Old Bogambara Prison within the next two weeks.

Prisons Spokesperson Senaka Pallathenna said 90% of the renovation work at the facility has now been completed.

He added that steps are currently being taken to deploy prison officers to the Bogambara Prison.

Meanwhile, compensation payments and a tribute ceremony will be held today at Prisons Headquarters for the 10 prison officers who lost their lives while on duty during the recent emergency situation at the Negombo Prison.

Prisons Spokesperson Senaka Pallathenna said each deceased officer will receive Rs. 2 million under the Agrahara insurance scheme.
