Coal Commission To Continue Evidence Hearing Tomorrow (13)

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Special Presidential Commission to Investigate Coal Procurement transactions will record evidence for the third consecutive day tomorrow (13).

The Deputy Manager of the Lakvijaya Coal Power Plant in Norochcholai, A.B.M Thushan Abeykoon, along with two other officials, have been summoned to provide evidence tomorrow.

Deputy Manager A.B.M Thushan Abeykoon was previously called before the commission last Wednesday, 8th of July to give evidence.

So far, evidence has been recorded from four officials.

The other officials who have provided evidence are Secretary to the Ministry of Energy G.M.R.D. Aponso, an Additional Secretary of the Ministry, and Registrar of Companies Shyama Harshani.

Representing the Attorney General’s Department before the three-member Presidential Commission are Deputy Solicitor General Ganga Wakishta Arachchi and Deputy Solicitor General Angelo Van Hout.

The commission commenced questioning the officials based on affidavits they had previously submitted to the Presidential Commission investigating coal transactions.

Secretary of the Presidential Commission D.V. Bandulasena said the evidence hearings are scheduled to continue over the next weeks.

The Special Presidential Commission to Investigate Coal Procurement transactions was appointed by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake to conduct a comprehensive investigation into alleged fraud, corruption, and irregularities in coal transactions and related procedures carried out in Sri Lanka since 2009.
