COLOMBO (News 1st); An aircraft that departed from Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake bound for Istanbul, Turkiye, has initiated an emergency landing procedure.
Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority, Daminda Rambukwella, said that this decision was taken due to a bird strike on the aircraft.
Accordingly, the aircraft has begun flying over the Negombo Lagoon to burn off fuel.
The Turkish Airlines flight , which departed from Katunayake Airport at 7:07 AM today, is carrying 253 passengers and 10 crew members.
Once the fuel levels are reduced, the aircraft is scheduled to land back at the Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake at approximately 10:00 AM today.
