COLOMBO (News 1st): Officers attached to the Narcotics Control Unit (NCU) of Sri Lanka Customs intercepted an 18-year-old Canadian female passenger at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) on the night of 23 June 2026.
The suspect had arrived in Sri Lanka from Toronto, Canada, via Dubai on Emirates flight EK 648 at approximately 10:40 p.m.
During an examination of her two checked-in luggage bags, Customs officers discovered 35,265 grams (35.265 kilograms) of Hashish concealed inside the baggage. The estimated street value of the seized narcotics is approximately LKR 352.65 million.
Preliminary investigations are currently being conducted by officers of the Narcotics Control Unit of Sri Lanka Customs. The suspect, along with the seized narcotics, is scheduled to be handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) for further investigations and legal proceedings.
