AKD Writes to PM Modi, Praises India's Rise and Strong Friendship

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, in a formal letter has conveyed his deep appreciation for India’s unwavering friendship and the personal support extended by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during challenging times.

The letter was issued to congratulate Prime Minister Narendra Modi on becoming the longest-serving elected Prime Minister in the history of the Republic of India. 

In his message, President Dissanayake noted that at a time when India is steadily advancing toward immense prosperity and success in a remarkable historic phase, Sri Lanka looks forward to continuing its journey based on the unprecedented momentum in bilateral relations between the two nations.

Excerpt from the President’s letter:

"Sri Lanka has been privileged to work closely with India throughout this transformative period. 

Over the course of your tenure, the partnership between our two countries has reached unprecedented heights, founded upon geographical proximity, deep civilisational links, shared democratic values and a common commitment to the prosperity and well-being of our peoples.

I wish to express our sincere appreciation for India's steadfast friendship and invaluable support to Sri Lanka during some of the most challenging periods in our recent history.

Your personal commitment and engagement have contributed significantly to strengthening the bonds of trust and cooperation between our two nations. The assistance extended by India has been deeply appreciated by the people of Sri Lanka and will always be remembered with gratitude.

I look forward to working closely with Your Excellency to further strengthen the longstanding friendship and comprehensive partnership between Sri Lanka and India for the mutual benefit of our peoples and the advancement of peace, stability and prosperity in our region."
