COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lankan police have seized a major stock of narcotics, including over 3 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as “ice,” during a targeted operation in the Baduraliya area, while a separate arrest in Kandy uncovered a suspect accused of distributing drugs to schoolchildren.

The large haul of narcotics was discovered near a roadside in the Thumbagalla Kanda area of Baduraliya following a search operation launched on intelligence received by local police.

Authorities said the drugs had been abandoned at the location.

According to police, the stock of “ice” was found packed inside a black travel bag. Upon inspection, officers recovered a total of 3 kilograms and 362 grams of the highly addictive substance.

Investigations are currently underway to identify and apprehend the individuals responsible for the narcotics consignment.

In a separate but equally alarming development, police in Thalathuoya arrested an individual allegedly involved in distributing drugs, including “ice” and narcotic pills, targeting school students.

During the operation, officers recovered approximately 2,600 milligrams of narcotics believed to be intended for sale, along with a quantity of drug pills.

The suspect was taken into custody and is scheduled to be produced before the Kandy Magistrate’s Court.
