COLOMBO (News 1st): The Department of Meteorology states that heavy rains of about 100 mm could occur in many areas today as well.
This is due to the Southwest Monsoon gradually establishing itself across the island.
The Department of Meteorology stated that as a result, the rainy conditions currently prevailing in the southwestern parts of the island could enhance.
Showers or thundershowers will occur from time to time in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and Northwestern provinces, as well as in the Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara Eliya districts.
It is also mentioned that showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the Uva province and in the Ampara and Batticaloa districts during the afternoon.
The Department of Meteorology advises the public to take necessary precautions to protect themselves from temporary localized strong winds and lightning damage during thundershowers.
Meanwhile, landslide warnings have been issued for several Divisional Secretariat divisions across 5 districts.
Accordingly, Level 2 (Amber) landslide warnings have been issued for the Dehiowita, Deraniyagala, Ruwanwella, and Yatiyantota Divisional Secretariat divisions in the Kegalle district, and the Kuruwita, Ratnapura, Ayagama, and Eheliyagoda Divisional Secretariat divisions in the Ratnapura district.
The National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) stated that Level 1 (Yellow) landslide warnings have also been issued for several Divisional Secretariat divisions in the Colombo, Kalutara, Kegalle, Nuwara Eliya, and Ratnapura districts.
