COLOMBO (News 1st); Several roads have been inundated due to heavy rainfall.
Police say that vehicular movement has been disrupted on the Colombo-Avissawella main road as it has been flooded in the Puwakpitiya Pahana area.
Meanwhile, the Delgoda-Balummahara road is underwater in the Udupila area.
The Gampaha District Disaster Management Centre announced that traffic has also been disrupted on the Gampaha-Miriswatta road due to flooding.
Furthermore, the Divulapitiya-Mirigama road is flooded in the Ullalapitiya area, obstructing the movement of light vehicles.
The Railway Department noted that train operations on the Puttalam line have been limited to Nattandiya and Kudawewa due to fallen trees.
Meanwhile, Minor flood warnings were issued this morning for the Attanagalu Oya, Kelani River, and Kalu River following the heavy rains. These warnings have been issued to remain in effect for the next 24 hours.
The Department of Irrigation urges residents living in the low-lying areas along these rivers within the Divulapitiya, Mirigama, Attanagalla, Mahara, Gampaha, Minuwangoda, Ja-Ela, Katana, and Wattala Divisional Secretariat divisions to pay close attention to this situation.
The Department of Irrigation states that people living along the banks of the Kelani River in the Ruwanwella, Seethawaka, Dompe, Biyagama, Dehiowita, Eheliyagoda, Yatiyantota, and Bulathkohupitiya Divisional Secretariat divisions should remain vigilant regarding a minor flooding situation over the next 24 hours.
Minor flood warnings have been issued for residents living along the riverbanks in the Ratnapura, Kuruwita, Elapatha, Ayagama, and Kiriella Divisional Secretariat divisions.
The Department of Irrigation emphasized that residents in areas where warnings have been issued must remain highly vigilant, and passengers and drivers should exercise caution.
Meanwhile, the Department of Meteorology states that very heavy rainfall of over 200 mm could occur at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North Western provinces, as well as in the Galle district.
