Finance Secretary to Skip COPF Meeting Ahead of Presidential Statement on Cyber Theft

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Dr. Harsha de Silva, Chairman of the Committee on Public Finance (COPF), stated that Secretary to the Treasury Dr. Harshana Suriyapperuma has informed him via letter that he will not attend today's Committee on Public Finance (COPF) meeting.

In the letter, the Finance Secretary noted that President Dissanayake is scheduled to provide a statement to Parliament on the 5th of May regarding the incident of recent cybertheft of $2.5 million from the General Treasury.

The Committee on Public Finance had recently decided to summon Treasury Secretary Dr. Harshana Suriyapperuma and a group of high-ranking Finance Ministry officials to investigate the theft of $2.5 million via a cyberattack.

Accordingly, these officials had been previously notified to appear before the committee today.
